A few stunning items in this upcoming auction, including an extremely rare concept painting by Mary Blair for Susie, the Little Blue Coupe (page 10 of the catalog).

One mistake in the captions: the drawing on page 40 by Ken Anderson is not from The Jungle Book but was created for the abandoned project Scruffy.

Hello, Didier. Regarding the Ken Anderson drawing on page 40, whether or not the ape looks like King Louie, it does look like an orangutan, while the apes in "Scruffy" were Barbary macaques, which look very different. All I know about Paul Gallico's "Scruffy" is that Disney purchased the film rights and Bill Walsh was working on a screenplay in 1968, I believe. What do you know about the development of this project, which was eventually abandoned?

Jeff: Most of what I learned about the development of that project will be included in They Drew As They Pleased - Volume 5. I went through all the concept art by Ken at the Animation Research Library and saw the final color drawing for that specific piece of art. Ken's version of the apes for Scruffy is extremely similar to the orangutans he had created for The Jungle Book, despite what is originally in the book. I have an absolute certainty that this specific drawing was created while Ken was working on Scruffy ;-)
